Trimellitate esters are a type of ester that are used as lubricants in many applications, including:
- High-temperature applications
Trimellitate esters have a high flash point and low volatility, making them ideal for high-temperature lubricants like air compressor oil, chain oil, and grease. They can also be used in transformer fluids and high-temperature conveyor bearings.
- Engine and industrial lubricants
Trimellitate esters can be used as base stocks or blended with other synthetic fluids in many engine and industrial lubricant applications. They can also be used in textile lubricants and the disk drive industry.
- Other applications
Trimellitate esters can be used in oven chain lubricants and HX1 base fluids.
Trimellitate esters are produced by reacting trimellitic anhydride with monobasic and polybasic alcohols. They have a low viscosity index and are responsive to blending with VI improvers. They also have good lubricating properties and low-temperature properties.
