Base Oil

Description

Sorbitan esters are non-ionic surfactants that are used in lubricants as emulsifiers and surfactants. They are made by reacting sorbitol, a six-hydroxy sugar alcohol, with fatty acids:

Sorbitan esters are used in a variety of lubricants, including:

  • Diesel antiwear agents

  • Rust removers

  • Fermenting agents

  • Metalworking and cutting fluids

  • Grease

  • Lubricating oil composite additives

  • Water-based rust prevention oils

  • Copper wire-drawing oils

Sorbitan esters are also used in other industries, such as:

  • Food products: As emulsifiers

  • Dispersing agents: In machining fluids and coatings

  • Pharmaceutics: As solubilizers and emulsifiers in creams, soaps, ointments, and emulsions

They are well known non-ionic surfactants, emulsifiers used in variety of industries and products. The major applications for these products include Emulsion Explosives, Emulsion Polymerization, Food, Personal care, Lubricants etc.
