Description
Trimethylolpropane (TMP) trioleate is a polyol ester that can be used as a lubricant additive in industrial applications like two-stroke engine oils, hydraulic fluids, and metalworking oils. It has excellent lubricating properties, a high viscosity index, and is fire resistant. TMP trioleate is also biodegradable and hydrolytically stable.
Here are some ways TMP trioleate is used in lubricants:
- Food grade lubricants:
TMPE can be used to improve the physicochemical and tribological properties of food grade lubricants. TMPE is a non-Newtonian shear-thinning fluid with a high viscosity index that can reduce friction and wear between moving parts.
- Base lubricant:
TMP ester can be used as a base lubricant for motor car engines.
- Additive:
TMP ester can be used as an additive with other components to improve the lubricant's performance. For example, in one study, TMP ester was combined with graphene oxide (GO) and oleic acid (OA) to increase dispersion stability and reduce the coefficient of friction
