Description
Neopentyl glycol (NPG), also known as 2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diol or Dimethylolpropan, is an organic chemical compound that's used in the production of synthetic lubricating esters for lubricants. NPG is also used in other applications, such as:
Polyesters: Improves the stability of polyesters to heat, light, and water
Paints: Used in the synthesis of paints
Plasticizers: Used in the synthesis of plasticizers
Hydraulic fluids: Used in hydraulic fluids
Greases: Used in greases
Metal-working fluids: Used in metal-working fluids
Aircraft engine lubricants: Used in aircraft engine lubricants
Polyester polyols: Used in polyurethane coatings for the automotive, industrial maintenance, transportation, and aerospace markets
NPG is a colorless-to-white, crystalline, hygroscopic compound that is slightly toxic and combustible. It can be harmful if ingested or absorbed through the skin, and is known to cause skin and eye irritation
