Base Oil

Description

Butyl esters are fatty acid esters that have been used in lubricants and metal working products for over 60 years. They have a high flash point, low volatility, and good lubricity, and their polarity makes them good solvents & detergents. Butyl esters are also commonly biodegradable.

Here are some examples of butyl esters and their uses:

  • Butyl stearate

Also known as stearic acid, butyl ester, butyl octadecanoate, or n-butyl octadecanoate, butyl stearate can be an oily liquid or waxy solid. It can be used as a lubricant, plasticizer, emollient, and skin conditioning agent in cosmetics and personal care products. It can also be used as a masking agent in perfumes, and as a cutting oil in the metal industry.

  • Butyl oleate

Also known as oleic acid butyl ester, butyl oleate can be used as an antistatic lubricant, plasticizer, and textile wetting agent. It can also be used in lipsticks, hair sprays, creams, lotions, and the leather industry
